The Grand Opening of 2013 National Congress of Plant Biology in Nanjing
     

Jointly sponsored by Crop Science Society of China, Chinese Society for Cell Biology, Genetics Society of China, Chinese Society of Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology, Botanical Society of China, and organized by Nanjing Agricultural University and Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, The 2013 National Congress of Plant Biology (NCPB-2013) was held ceremoniously in Zhongshan Hotel in Nanjing from October 8 to 11. With the theme of¡°Plant Science Promotes Agricultural Innovation¡±, the congresshas become a high-level, large-scale, far-reaching academic conference by showing the latest achievements of plant biology research, promoting academic exchanges and cooperation, and encouraging technological innovation in the fieldof plant biology.

Five distinguished scientists Deng Xingwang, Zhu Jiankang, Zhang Qifa, Zhu Yuxian and Wang Yonghong delivered lectures entitled ¡°A life and death decision from darkness to light¡±, ¡°Epigenetic silencing and anti-silencing mechanisms in Arabidopsis¡±, ¡°Understanding reproductive isolation based on the rice model¡±, ¡°Evolution of cotton A, D subgenome and analysis of its function¡±, ¡°Roles of strigolactones in regulating rice plant architecture¡± respectively.Seventy-nine distinguished young scholarsgave presentations onfive topics: ¡°the plant development and cell function¡±, ¡°genomics and molecular breeding¡±, ¡°plant hormones and signal transduction¡±, ¡°mechanisms of biological and abiotic stress adaptation¡±, and ¡°epigenetic and metabolic regulation¡±. Delegates made extensive and comprehensiveexchanges and discussions onthe study of plant biology. In addition, the event bestowedcertificates to excellent poster winners.
